Post-WiFi part2
Wi-Fi’s problems, part 2
Hello all,
My last post spoke of using “Scan” as the first step to diagnose wireless problems. Now we will see “Spectral-history” and “Spectral-scan”.
To use these tools, open a “New Terminal” window and run the following commands:
/interface wireless spectral-history wlan1
/interface wireless spectral-scan wlan1 show-interference=yes
Other parameters can be added, such as “range” to specify the frequency range to analyze.
With “Spectral-history”, one must look at:
- The beautiful colours. Yes, it’s true! The scale (transmitted power) is always displayed at the top of the page. Furthermore, the more we stretch the window, the more granular the frequency scale becomes.
- With the beautiful colours, we see the frequencies that emit the strongest. In principle, there should be a direct correlation between this tool and “Scan”.
- You must know your network to see if the results are normal. What are your APs? Where are they? What power do they transmit at?
“Spectral-scan” is another representation of the spectrum, except that the history is less persistent. However, you can specify that you want to display the sources of interference. If any exist, they will be displayed.
Now, how to use these results? We will see that on the third post. (Evil grin!)
Best regards,
